Most of the images in this gallery were photographed in national parks where I have had the privilege to work as an interpretive naturalist or ranger.  I have a friend in Massachusetts who erects small blinds near swamps and beaver ponds in nearby state forests where he patiently spends many happy hours.  Each year he captures a few great wildlife images.  I tend not to have the patience for this method.  Perhaps I have been spoiled by the years that I spent living and working in national parks.  It is within this small percentage of the land area of our country - national parks, national wildlife refuges, private sanctuaries and some state parks, where hunting has been prohibited for a prolonged period of time - that the wildlife has lost at least some of an otherwise healthy phobia regarding human beings.  In most of the country, if you see a wild animal, it will probably be in full flight, not at all wanting to see you.  For this reason, the more time you spend in national parks or other areas where the wildlife is strictly protected, the far greater will be your chances of achieving great wildlife images.  Click on any of the thumbnails  to enlarge.
