Turk's Cap Lilies, Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina (#AT0014)

Between the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Virginia state line, there is a 215-mile segment of the Appalachian Trail that follows the North Carolina - Tennessee state boundary.  For nearly the entire distance the trail is within the Pisgah and Cherokee National Forests, following the crest of ridges that rise above 4000 feet elevation.
