Whitetail fawn, Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee (#WF0004)
Gregory Bald is a beautiful open area on a mountaintop adjacent to Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I hiked up to the bald one year to photograph the flame azaleas. Gregory Bald is noted for its great diversity of "color morphs" among its population of flame azaleas, where flowers range in color from the "standard" orange to yellow, pink, white, purple and blue. While there, this fawn appeared from the woods accompanied by its mother.
