Desert Dandelions, Anza-Borrego State Park, California (#PC0002)
Desert dandelions grow beneath the dry slopes of the Mohave Desert. In late March and early April, especially after a moist winter, the desert wildflower display can be spectacular within the 600,000-acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
Many miles of the trail in southern
California are through chaparral, where mountain mahogany, manzanita, ceanothus
and other fire-adopted shrubs thrive. Here and there, the trail drops into
small canyons where large sycamores and live oaks grow beside small streams. The
diversity of environments in southern California means that you probably won't
be bored along this segment of the Pacific Crest Trail.
