P.C.T. marker, Walker Pass, California (#PC0005)
It is here at Walker Pass that the Pacific Crest Trail gradually ascends from the Mojave Desert to the higher, cooler country of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Pass is named after the mountain man, Joseph Reddiford Walker, who successfully led a party of fur trappers from the Rocky Mountains to the California coast during the 1820’s.
