Elk, Yellowstone National Park (#WF0012)
When you are dealing with wildlife, you seldom are allowed much time for decision-making. The three
elk in the photograph above were moving at a trot and about to disappear into
the nearby woods. The decision of whether to "fill the frame" with the three elk
or include more of the Yellowstone landscape was made quickly because a 70-300
mm zoom telephoto lens was attached to my camera.
The view through the viewfinder at 300 mm did not excite me and I was
able to quickly recompose the image by “zooming” down to 100 mm.
This allowed a little of Mt. Everts and the Yellowstone countryside to be
included within the image.
