In the deep woods, Maine (#AT0025)
Alright, you have just crossed from New Hampshire into Maine, the last of the fourteen states that contain the Appalachian Trail. Now, there is only 275 miles remaining to Mt. Katahdin! Of course, it may be better not to think about the fact that soon you will be in the Mahoosic Range and will have to endure one of the most rugged sections of the A.T. Get ready for some boulder hopping. Northern and western Maine is sometimes referred to as the "unincorporated townships" - most of its ten million forested acres are owned by large paper companies.
