Birch stem and beech leaves, Green Mountain National Forest, Vermont (#AT0022)
When you cross the state line from Massachusetts into Vermont, you enter the 350,000 acres of the Green Mountain National Forest. There is a feel of greater "wildness" as road crossings become further apart and the mountains become taller. The likelihood of seeing moose tracks (if not the big critters themselves) increases as well.
